It was MLB's concession to the Orioles for putting another franchise in the


O's back yard. Angelos wanted the Orioles put in a division with Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Philiadelphia, all teams with similar payrolls, instead of having to compete with the seemingly unlimited payroll of the Yanks and Red Sox's

Angelos may have also threatened to open up the books of MLB to expose how much money the clubs were really making.

As a compromise, the O's were awarded broadcast rights to the Nationals. The National's have argued since the beginning that there were being vastly under paid.

The truth is somewhere in the middle on all regards.
