The concern I'd have about making that big investment in an old truck is


the resultant value. If you get hit by some yahoo tomorrow, their insurance company won't care about the new engine/transmission etc. You'll just get whatever the book value is. I would vote for keeping the truck running and safe, but investing the $15k in something newer/more reliable.
