I could see that happening if you get some big temperature gradients


across your windshield, like pouring hot water over the drive side while the passenger side is still freezing. Same reason you don't want to pour hot water on your windshield to defrost it. Heck, even running your defroster full blast with a thick layer of ice on it could risk cracking it.
