Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships

Our women's team should contend for the title but need some big performances to defend their title. FSU is the favorite on paper. Like the men, they are especially tough in the sprints, long jump and triple jump. In addition, they will most likely rack up major points in the longer races (Mile, 3K, 5K) to edge us out. We have the #1 seed in three events; Rachel Baxter in the PV, Caitlin Tate in the 400m and Essence Henderson in the Shot Put. All are strong favorites. Both of our relays are seeded second as is Lindsey Butler in the 800m. All have a chance of winning. It should be a close battle for third between Clemson (led by former Hokie and #1 seed in the 800m, Laurie Barton), NC State (will dominate 3K and 5K), Miami (sprinters) and Virginia (sprints, LJ and HJ). If I had to give probabilities for winning the championship: FSU-50%, VT-20%, Clemson-10%, NC State-10%, Miami-5%, Virginia-5%. Nobody else has a shot. A second place finish ahead of Virginia will be a good result. Go Hokies!
