Which ones do ‘we suck at’?

Maybe we should get rid of the academic programs that we ‘suck at’ too? Should we just go to the bare minimum to keep football alive? I’m sure someone good has done that.

Would you be the one to go face those student-athletes and coaches and tell them they suck and they no longer have a place at Tech as a student-athlete?

550 athletes out of how many total students at Tech? What is the purpose of our University? What does the school want to be?

The University of Denver (where one of my son’s attends) sponsors 16 or so (depends if you count swimming and diving separate- i didn’t btw- and skiing is coed). 326 athletes at Denver on a total admission level of - 12931 total students but only 5774 undergrads.

I would wager that we could get rid of every sport except football and men’s basketball and keep the bare minimum required by title nine of women’s sports and we wouldn’t win a national title in football or basketball. The gap is already too big and has been for ten years or more. Clemson has had IPTAY since before I went on a road trip with the MV’s there in the mid 80’s. They had money before anyone seemed to know what having money was. Their stadium was way bigger than ours (and full) before ours was getting filled in the early 90’s. Ten a year, thirty a year...made a difference...so did how many decades of a conference.

Maybe you want to keep the non-revs we are ‘good at’. Ok...well a few years ago we weren’t so good at wrestling. Wasn’t the team about to be shutdown? Baseball...good this year...not so good a few years ago. Because of title 9 we would have to shut down men’s sports. You can argue that title 9 is awful blah blah blah (I happen to disagree but we can agree to disagree if you feel this way)...so...Football, men’s basketball, and the minimum of women’s sports. So, no men’s track, no swimming and diving, no baseball, no soccer, no wrestling, no tennis, no golf...no XCountry...what else should we cut?

Which do we keep? Which go? Remember, even if you hate title 9...it is not going anywhere. So which do you keep if you want football to be the be all end all of our school?
