Saturday Morning Breakdown
Matches will get going once again at 11 AM eastern:
125 3rd place semi: Latona vs. #4 Drew Hildebrandt (Central Michigan) - winner will advance to the third place match against either Taylor Lamont (Utah Valley), who Sam lost to in the quarters, or Mitch McKee (Minn.) who Sam beat in the second round. If he loses he drops to the fifth place match where he'll face the loser of McKee vs. Lamont.
133 3rd place semi: Korbin vs. #7 Lucas Byrd (Illinois) - winner will advance to the third place match against either #9 Michael McGee (Arizona State) or #4 Austin DeSanto (Iowa). If he loses he drops to the fifth place match where he'll face the loser of McGee vs. DeSanto.
184 7th Place: Bolen vs. Louie DePrez (Binghamton) - a guy who Hunter has lost to and beaten before, both at the 2019 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite.
Korbin has already earned 6 placement points and could earn up to 10 for placing 3rd. The lowest he can earn is 7 for placing 5th. Same for Latona. Hunter has earned 3 placement points for AAing and can get one more additional point for placing 7th (4 total).
At this point, every little bit helps. If our guys can max their point scoring potential, we could, if my shoddy math is correct, finish with 42.5 points (without bonus points). That would be our lowest point total since 2012 when we tied for 11th (in St. Louis) with 39.0 points. With that said, 42.5 points without Mekhi Lewis would be pretty good if we get there.
Also, that's now eight straight years with 3 or more AAs. That stands with Cornell (did not participate at this year's tourney), Oklahoma State, Iowa and Penn State. That's it. [Post edited by AllenHokie732 at 03/20/2021 09:00AM]
