We fell victim to expectations
Good discussion on here. Yes some doom and gloom with some positive. Yes, we have a young team...lots of teams are young now. Kids come to college more prepared than ever. The UNI guy that beat Bolen is a R-fresh. Lots of young guys are making noise but tough to expect the majority of an entire team to do it. I love our guys and hate talking anything negative but...Sam was really tough but put himself in odd positions that we haven't seen this year, numerous times IMO. Korbin wrestled as expected depending on today and looked great. Bryce lost focus, I felt the spotlight would help him exceed. He did wrestle tough against Mauller...maybe the disappointment of a big loss gets him off his game. Skilled wrestlers are going to stay away from the big move and he will need to round out his skills to get to where he expects to be. Many take a slide after losing in the tourney. Connor was expected but I think he was capable of getting a backside win. Mekhi, tough, obviously a big factor if healthy. Howard, I think we all love the tank, hopeful for an upset but can be sloppy. Bolen, maybe most painful for me..I love his tenacity and toughness....honestly, its his tank. I was telling a buddy before the tournament, Bolen needs a lead early because the tank empties. Last year he was cruising against Nino and lost due to his tank. Anyone not seeing him fade late is not watching IMO, easier said than done. Even when he wins, it headlock and hold late. He is fully capable of high AA. Any AA is a great accomplishment but I guarantee you he expects more. Catka, similar to Brady, we initially expected more but I think realistically he is about where he should be. He lost to guys with better seeds, I thought he might grab that first round win though. Well said by many in here, we beleived the hype with the dual championship, national accolades, and rightfully so, but we are a year or so away from being a great tournament team.
