What's contributing even more is the fact that movies that


no one knows about or sees are what ends up getting nominated. When people don't have access to, nor care about, the movies that are being nominated, they don't care to watch a 4 hour show celebrating it.

Over the past 5 years or so, with the advent of streaming services producing their own movies, you've really seen a severe lack of recognition among the nominees. The past 6 winners are NomadLand, Parasite, Green Book, The Shape of Water, Moonlight and Spotlight. I can tell you what one of those movies was about, roughly. I also have no idea how you can watch any of those movies now. I'm not sure if any of them were in a theater (not named The Lyric) around me for more than 2 weeks.
