I did the math with what I observed; that figure isn't a manufacturer's


claim. I admittedly didn't get out my multi-meter and check the current going through it to validate 8.5W, however, that part isn't really in dispute diodes are diodes; there's only a small bit of variance in the circuit driving the diode, but it's not going to put that measurement off by a large factor.
