Buzz offered a spot to everyone (even guys he didn't really want).


He probably felt it would have looked bad to not offer them all. However, with Radford, they knew pretty early on that he was going to be a significant contributor. If he wasn't an academic redshirt, he would have gotten decent minutes as a true freshman. His rebounding was so good that they had a special drill they ran where he just paced back and forth along the 3pt line with 2 guys under the basket. A coach would take a shot and the 2 guys would have to work to box him out and get the rebound. He would still get it about 1/2 the time unless it was KJ and PJ (they started getting someone else to help out when they were under the basket, but every other combo was just them vs. Boots).
