What prevents UNC and UVA from joining the SEC tomorrow morning?
They would have to pay exit fees, of course. And the GoR commits their media rights to the ACC until 2036. But the ACC has in-turn committed those media rights to ESPN, who also owns the SEC media rights. So what difference does it make? The games would be televised by ESPN and perhaps they would need to refrain, somehow, from branding those two schools as SEC members in their telecasts. ESPN could continue to pay the ACC the full payout. IT is a bargain now and even more so as years go by.
I think that would lock up the remaining ACC schools from ever being invited to the SEC or B1G. The B1G wants UNC and UVA because of their academic reputations. If those two joined the B1G, that might make it possible for The B1G to also add Ga Tech and/or Duke. Without UNC and UVA, I think the B1G will give up on the South. SEC/ESPN would not even need to spend money on Clemson, VT, or FL State. They won't need them.
If the B1G can capture UNC and UVA it opens up possibilities for many other ACC schools. If those two fall to the SEC, it's over for everyone else.
