I found the jump to poor to good is easier than good to great

The poor shooter is willing to listen more if he/she is having very little success. Give them small tips bits at a time to not overwhelm them. Tweak here and there, rather than a major overall all at once.

I had one player in late1980's go from 25% foul shooter as a soph in HS to around 85% as a senior. Didn't shoot anything past 10 feet because he was our banger. 6'4 200 as soph and 6'4 225 as a senior. Loved the weight room just to improve his basketball. Unfortunately, college wasn't in the picture, but he dominated adult leagues in our area for 10+ years.

Our teams had several go from poor to almost good too.

Our good shooters, early on, didn't think they need to improve as much as the poor shooters. Unless college basketball is in the picture they seemed to plateau at a certain point before they reach a great level.
