Notre Dame has more non-alumni fans than LSU

A far larger percentage of them, too.

The two programs are not remotely the same. Neither are lots of other programs.

I think that it is a combo of Louisiana history (political corruption and "let the good times roll" culture) plus being in the SEC.

(I only moved two years ago, so it is definitely "is", not "was". Look at the scandals involving Les Miles and Ed O)
