The City of Richmond couldn't be more screwed up if it tried.

I applied for a building permit application over a month ago and as of early this morning had not even received an invoice to pay for the fee, meaning that the application had not even been routed into plan review yet. So it's been sitting in someone's inbox for a month. I've emailed a few of the permit technicians several times and never received a response, so today I finally reached out to the senior plan reviewer and asked for his help. To his credit, he responded right away and let me know that someone had put a hold on our application because the City claimed we don't have a current business license. That is false, and we run into this issue so often with the City that we have an electronic copy of our business license saved in our general files folder for easy access. So I responded promptly with the license attached, and lo and behold I received a permit fee invoice within the hour. Hilariously, the City's system is so broken that not only have I received one email notice about the invoice, but I have received no less than 11 emails, four of which have been delivered while typing this post, after I've already paid the fee.

So after waiting for the City for over a month, only to find out they had put a hold on my application due to THEIR error and did not even bother to tell me about it or do anything to correct the problem, now they are going to spam the sh*t out of my inbox. The last time this happened I think I got almost 30 email notifications about the invoice...should be a fun rest of the morning.

It's so pathetic that all I can do is laugh.
