stunt. Totally different situation, but probably worse. Her boyfriend held an encyclopedia against his chest and told her to shoot the encyclopedia to prove that it would stop the bullet. She reluctantly aimed the gun, which she knew was loaded with real bullets, and pulled the trigger. Bullet passed through the encyclopedia and killed the boyfriend. She ended up getting sentenced to 6 months in jail.

I could be wrong, but what Alec Baldwin did doesn't seem nearly as awful as that. He legitimately thought he had a "cold" gun. He was told it was a "cold" gun. He aimed and shot in the direction he was supposed to, and tragically, the gun wasn't "cold." Should he have checked the gun? Yes. Should he suffer some type of penalty? Absolutely. I'm certain he'll face civil penalties and end up paying damages to the family. Will he go to jail? Probably not, and honestly, he probably shouldn't. He has to live with this for the rest of his days, and that's going to suck unless he is a soulless, cold hearted, monster.

I have no issue with people that want to own a gun. Me, I hate guns. I don't like being around them. Just not my thing. I'd be more worried about accidentally shooting myself or someone else, and I don't think I could live with that. In this world, there are Dirty Harrys and Barney Fifes. I am much more the latter.
