Don't buy too much into the media sensationalism of Portland
Sure there were issues with the riots last summer, but everything you saw on TV happened in one city block. The rest of the city went on with life as normal (or the covid shut down version of normal at least).
Crime and vandalism have increased in the last few years, but it's the same story in pretty much every city right now. It just seems worse in Portland because the crime rate used to be so low relative to everywhere else. Portland is still one of the safest major cities in the country. Tourism is struggling to bounce back, but that's all based on reputation and perception of people in other parts of the country.
