The ACC needs to focus on two things to energize the football fan base.

1 - They need to build solid consistent teams not named Clemson. Specifically, it needs to be traditional powers and that comes down to Florida State, Virginia Tech could be in there as a second tier power, along with members like Clemson. But, the fortunes of the ACC ride solely on the shoulders of Florida State.

2 - The rest of the conference must do better in every aspect of the football programs. Coaching sucks in the ACC. Everyone seems to have a loser, UNC hired a dead man struggling to find his teeth on the night stand each morning. VT, hired a guy that looked good on Day one but it was obvious early on that he was not the guy. I would say in Year One her had some moments that those watching closely would say "UH, maybe we bought the wrong one, but what the heck, lets dump money into this guy and whistle past the graveyard as we go downhill, nothing to see here." Then, when something terminal should have been done the coach gets an extension. Boggling.

This not exclusive to VT, WVU is doing it too, all of them are. Wake Forest has a decent guy but he not all that either. He has risen to his natural ceiling in a weak conference with no real first tier programs in the conference to bring reality back awareness. So, Wake Forest is the tallest midget syndrome.

Then there is the issue that some schools do not have on-campus stadiums. Looking at you Pitt and Miami. No one will ever take your programs serious until you invest in your own house. But, your lack of support also affects the ACC as a whole and brings down your peers. The ACC deserves better. The ACC is a great conference. It can be a premiere conference but it reminds me of the city of Charlotte in the 1990's. It was a huge town with ONE four lane road that was no the interstate because the people running the place had a small town mentality. The ACC has a small time mentality when it comes to football. That needs to change and that will not change unless the commissioner does and he will not change until the Presidents get with the program. I never see that happening. ACC Presidents are myopic.
