It is a given that regardless of who VT hires, the troops will rally around him and make him KING of the Campus for several years at least. Fan Loyalty is strong at VT, even when not warranted. It has caused VT to hang on to coaches when they should have been moving on. You know within three years and sometimes just 2 if the guy you have is YOUR guy. Recruiting has changed so dramatically with the transfer portal set up that it is not a highly regarded quality in new coaching searches.

But, how that coach fits into the "system" is critical. I say it it often, a university president, AD and HC must all be singing from the same page for any successful program and Tom Herman is a soloist. Worse, he has a tracked record of trying to buck the system. Maybe that was a result of being in such an acid bath that is the Texas Longhorns but he is not the get along and play well with others in the university type. He knows better always and when things do not go his way he tends to be a bit slimey in his commentary on local radio shows and after game pressers.

He is full of himself and he needs to go somewhere where that coin spends well, but it is not at VT.
