Lexington won 18-13...
Central-Lunenburg went 92-5-1 from 1984 to 1990 losing 5 state championship games and winning 2. Central had a 81 game regular season winning streak from 1984 to 1991. They lost to Powell Valley by 1 point twice and to Lexington and Covington by a TD. Powell Valley gave them one of their worst loses in the finals in their 3rd match up. Central's most memorable win was their first in 1980 at Appalachia winning 61-12. My good friend was the All-State center at 5'8" and 140 pounds. Ha ha! RB Carl Coles played at Tech in the mid to late 1980's. Anthony Davis started at LOT for Tech from the late 1990's to ealry 2000's and played in the NFL for about 4 seasons. Those glory years are long gone but there's a lot of high schools who can say the same. Some of those schools in the old James River District now over 1,000 to 2,000 students like Fluvanna, Clover Hill and Powhatan. Goochland finally left the JRD last season. Central, Amelia, Buckingham and Cumberland are the only remaining members from the original JRD. I think Buffalo Gap was the better team (Single A) in the Staunton area back then. Madison County was pretty good.
