The process is too subjective, both from a bid and a seeding perspective.


There needs to be a lot more transparency. There is no good reason that the primary factors driving both tourney invites and seeding should not be publicly known and advertised. If Q1 wins are the #1 criteria, let teams know that. If it's NET, let them know that. If conference tournament performance is largely irrelevant, be open about that.

The problem with the current process is not that the selection logic is bad. The problem is that no one really knows what that criteria is, and the perception (correct, IMHO) is that the criteria shifts depending on what team or league is involved, and there is no current way to objectively determine why a team is or is not invited. Or why, for example, both VT teams find themselves facing games where the seeding disparity is ridiculous compared to the real world performance and rankings of the opponents.

As a start, why not publish a ranking of all tournament hopeful teams a month before the season ends, just like we do for football?

No process will ever be perfect, but don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. And the current process is far from good.
