Not a guru, but yes, I think it is mostly due to lost compression.


As the rings/cylinder walls age/wear, the rings seal less tightly against the cylinder walls and that results in lower compression and less power. It can also lead to oil burning, which affects combustion.

My advice is to paint some flames on the side of your car. TIC
