The problem wasn't his gender...


it was that he had zero experience coaching women's basketball. When asked, JW defended the decision by saying that DW has a daughter that played basketball (at UConn). Baffling.

There is some resentment of male coaches in women's sports, since there are very, very few female coaches in men's sports. However, DW isn't a good example, for the reasons already stated. Geno isn't a good example either. He's a heckuva a coach- no one can dispute that. However, he is arrogant and his personality is "abrasive" at times. I remember when VT came the closest to beating UConn several years ago. Geno said after the game that Bonnie was "the second best coach in the Big East". No one had to ask him who he thought was the best. He could back up his talk, but unless you are a UConn fan, it can be annoying.
