...ther than the fact that Coach Brooks came to a struggling VT program despite the success he's enjoyed at JMU. Simply put, JMU doesn't have the same resources and advantages as an ACC school. As a result it makes a lot more sense for JMU to take a risk on an assistant within the program. This hire proves that VT has had the ability to attract a coach with proven success and yet the evidence suggests Mr. Weaver developed a preference for hiring "down the hall" rather than conducting a larger search for the best candidate. It's not simply a "down the hall" hire that's a problem (Dresser could be considered that type of hire for the wrestling program and has obviously been incredibly successful) but rather that it became the systemic solution to nearly every coaching vacancy.
