A school like Purdue will greatly benefit more from $40 million than let's say $28 million per year from TV. That extra $12 million will be $60+ million in 5 short years. Purdue can realistically fund new sports programs or greatly improve their athletic facilities or coaching staffs. Maybe Purdue uses the extra TV revenue for campus construction or academic scholarships? Right now, any one who reads about Power 5 conference's TV revenue projections, are seeing a wide range of revenue figures. Wealthier schools like Ohio State and Michigan will do fine if the revenue projections are lower than anticipated but schools like Rutgers, Purdue, and Maryland are really hoping that those revenue figures are higher. That's the main reason Maryland left the ACC. UMCP will look like geniuses if they get $40-50 million per year or look like fools if they end up getting the pretty much the same TV money as the ACC schools they left behind.
