Michigan State football still doesn't have the name recognition
and maybe even the history as Michigan football. Name recognition is really not that different than the notion that "sex sells." Michigan State may have accomplished a lot the past few years and even be the better "football program in the state of Michigan." However, the program is still missing that X factor that is preventing it from obtaining blueblood status (at least to the level of Michigan).
It would not surprise me if majority of the media and even college football fans still see Michigan State football is being on par with Kansas State football. I am not saying that it is right or wrong; just appears to be how things are in today's college football. Since most major programs have a goal of obtaining blueblood status and the amount of money that can be earned after obtaining it, then it may become more difficult for programs to obtain blueblood status than 20-30 years ago.
