I believe VT would run into a logistics problem adding field hockey. I believe field hockey is played in the fall and can be played on the same field as lax. You can rule out using Lane in the fall for obvious reasons. The women's lax plays on Thompson Field. In the fall, Thompson Field is used by men's and women's soccer teams. I am not sure the field could handle a third sport. Also, there is the issue about available space for practices. Next to Thompson Field are 2 practice fields (1 grass and 1 artificial) to help reduce the wear and tear on Thompson Field. The soccer teams use both fields to practice on (not if both teams hold practice at the same time or different times). If field hockey was added, then VT would need to either build another practice facility or come up with a creative way to squeeze in a third practice time slot. If VT is going to build a practice field for field hockey, then VT may decide to just go ahead and build a facility that the field hockey can use for both games and practice. That new facility would require a lot more space and cost more than a practice field.
