I remember interviewing Mike Conte after Howard beat VTEnglish Field

So probably in 1989? Not positive. After so many years of seeing VT destroy Howard, I asked him "OK, I know you hate to lose, but if SOMEONE has to beat you, are you ok with it being these guys?"

I'm thinking to myself, Howard's been crushed so often, and the vagaries of baseball, it might be ok having them FINALLY win one.

Mike was real competitive though. Firmly answered "No. If we have to lose, I want it to be to a great team with our best effort".
