Soon the Big 12 could be dead or have a Championship game. Either

way, it would be bad for ND as an independent. The remaining 4 or 5 power conferences will have a championship game with even more pressure, and votes, to reward those champs.

As an independent, ND benefits from the inequities of the status quo. The more the power conferences come in line with each other, the more difficult it is for an outsider to break through.

Putting ego ahead of the good of the program will erode the program, perhaps slowly, but it will happen.
