As far as I'm concerned, that may have still come about if Tech were in the SEC or CAA. Tech is geographically close to WFU. We had something they didn't have and vice versa.

Our relationship with the University of Maryland at College Park is still very good even though they moved to the Big 10. Our relationship with UMCP was good in the 1970's when Tech was a football independent and played most of our other sports in the mighty Metro Conference. The Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg continues to expand and move up in the national rankings.
