I heard in 1995

..that ND would have to join a football conference to save its independent basketball program and its other sports since FSU, Penn State and other independents were joining conferences.

It was said in 1995 that ND was "diminished" and "not the same as it used to be".

I heard in 1999..that it was a "done deal" that ND was going to join the Big Ten because the Faculty Senate and the AD at the time wanted it.

I heard in 2003 that it was a "done deal" that ND was going to join the ACC as a partial member, but with the deal being it was going to be obligated to join in full in 7 years

I also heard (for a short while) that ND was going to "save" the Big East by joining in full to keep a good home for its other sports.

I heard in 2010 that the "genius" Jim Delany had "checkmated" ND into joining the Big Ten in full because of all of the cash the BTN was going to generate. Too much cash for "greedy" ND to turn down..

Yet, with all of this talk of "I heard" and "done deal" and "checkmate" since 1995 regarding ND football, it is still not a member of any conference.
