Stannis' army was bogged down by feet of snow as they approached


Winterfell in the books and there wasn't a White Walker south of the Wall (that we know of). Walkers bring immediate cold to a small area. I'm not aware than they bring storm systems, though I wouldn't be surprised if that is a power of the Night King. I think Late 80s is talking about the seasonal change, and it's not being shown south of the Wall (or even at the Wall).
