William & Mary was a top D1A program. Beat every Va school for apx 5 years,

they played Bud Wilkerson's Oklahoma dynasty teams, they played Penn State and Army and Navy when they were top 20. In fact they were top 20 often with many players going to the NFL and some being All Pro NFL.

Then the coach got caught changing the high school transcripts to get kids in that would not have gotten in otherwise. The school decided that they could live with being Tier 2 just like ND is talking about.. It didn't happen over night, but eventually they could not compete.

If this is the road that ND wants to take...fine, but don't complain when Kelly leaves and others turn down the job because of not having the same chance as others to make the playoffs. Be very careful what you wish for...because you will probably get it.
