What if Notre Dame had beaten Clemson?

Does Clemson get the nod over 11-1 Notre Dame having Wofford and App State on the schedule, and losing at home to Notre Dame?

If true that Notre Dame was #4 before the conference championships, then they were absurdly overrated. However, it is a hard to argue they would not be in the playoff had they beaten Clemson. In other words, the one loss scenario - the only one that matters in the playoff access discussion - would have favored the Irish.

Discussing whether a two-loss Notre Dame was hurt by not playing in a conference championship game is irrelevant because not even the Irish thought they deserved a shot then. Conference champ Stanford was in the same boat.
