OSU played only two ranked teams and lost one of those games


they struggled against a weak OOC schedule (sorry, Frank, but it's true), and also struggled against teams like Indiana. They fell quickly when they lost their first true test of the year. The only reason they were ranked over Stanford all year was due to Stanford's loss to Northwestern. There is no mystery there - it's the same ranking games we see every year.

You say that last year showed how difficult it is for Notre Dame but that statement is conclusory. If Notre Dame had actually been excluded at 11-1 - which I think is less than 50% probability - then you have a case. All that was really shown is the Notre Dame will be excluded when they are not that good - like everybody else. In any case, Stanford's argument would be built on the head-to-head win, not by beating a mediocre USC squad again.
