Even though the Pac-12N model may not be generating as much revenue

and has some logistical/distribution issues still to work out, I do wonder if it may be a better long-term model as TV (using the term loosely here) evolves into the next phase. The members of the conference either have a 100% ownership or at minimal a significant majority of ownership on the network's content, how it is packaged, when the live events take place, and what avenues are used to distribute the content to the general public. Whereas if a conference's network is completely owned or significantly owned by a major network, then the conference is more at the whim of that major network.

For example if ESPN decided it wanted to do a 24-hours of college football like it does with basketball, then in theory ESPN could have 2 games, which involve teams in the eastern and central time zones, kickoff at 3:30am and 7:30am (assuming those kickoff times don't violate any local ordinances). Also, if the major network decides to sell conference related merchandise (i.e. DVDs, online access to replays of games, etc), then conference may not end up with a percentage of the sales revenue.
