As college athletics continues to evolve whose to say in the future

that big time college athletics doesn't become professional or that the conference structure (as we know it today) doesn't evolve into something completely different. WRT the amateur vs. professional debate, one thing that may not be completely put to bed is the potential double standard in rules between the academic side and athletic side.

Particularly I am referring to students on the academic side have less restrictions on earning an income outside of school while still in school. While going to school students have been known to work full time jobs, part-time jobs, or even multiple jobs. Heck an English major could have a book published while still an undergraduate. Does that mean they are amateurs or pros? I am not sure it completely matters if scholarships are involved or not because of the walkons. Since most non-revenue sports don't offer full scholarships to all of its players, then those programs tend to have more partial scholarship and walkon athletes. Now I don't think this debate will resurface with a football or basketball player. However, I could see it resurface with an athlete on a non-revenue sport.
