Whether a student competitor may “go pro” is really irrelevant.

The point is that everyone who competes in intercollegiate athletic competition sponsored by the NCAA does so with the understanding that they must abide by the NCAA's rules for competition and eligibility. If you don't want to play by their rules, you don't get to play. It's that simple.
