I bought a truck thru EBay- It was from a dealer in Chicago.

The truck was a really good deal, but not as good as I thought. Northern truck with a lot of rust underneath. I expected some, but not the extent that it had. Beautiful on outside, great paint job, low miles, etc. Engine and drive train have been mechanically sound. But I ended up replacing quite a bid of stuff underneath- steering parts and, oil pan, and springs. Also, I had some trouble getting the title-- had to get Ebay involved. If you pay through Ebay, you have some protection, at least that was true 3 years ago.

So- if the deal sounds too good to be true, something is amiss. My advice- get the best assessment you can. Maybe hire a mechanic locally to take a look at it. I do not know how you do that, but should be possible.
