Shoot I can't remember what it all looked like back then!

Louisville and West Virginia were still in the Big East TCU was in the Mountain West and Boise was in the WAC and a handful of schools were still in Div. I-AA (Old Dominion, UTSA, Texas State, and a few others, IIRC?)

I'm not even sure the Big XII would have managed to survive that exodus at all. If the SEC couldn't get TAMU, would they have gone after Mizzou at all? As I recall, Kentucky would have kill their own mother to keep Louisville out of the SEC and they were interested in expanding their footprint, which pretty much excludes Florida State, Miami, Georgia Tech and Clemson from consideration. Who is left? Mizzou, Kansas, K-State, Baylor, and Iowa State from the Big XII leftovers... and Mizzou wasn't yet on the RADAR. I'm not sure the SEC makes a play for any of them.

Suppose the Big Ten goes ahead and gets Maryland and Rutgers... the ACC then grabs Louisville, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh? Does WVU make the ACC in that case, along with Connecticut? And then Notre Dame still comes in for all sports but football, putting the ACC at 16 plus Notre Dame? Maybe the Big XII remnants goes in with what's left of the Big East?

A person could go nuts trying to figure that out!
