Not to relitigate the Spring of 2012
but I'd argue that JJ was the most "boring" hire in the ACC in recent years. With the exception of Coach K and Boeheim, everyone else made the NCAAs before their ACC school. JJ had never been a head coach anywhere, for that matter. Mike Hopkins will take over for Boeheim in a couple of years, but that's a bit different as he's the long-term top assistant for one of the all-time greats, and has been on the staff of a national title team. Plus he's a Syracuse alum. JJ had been on Seth's staff during a period of decline, and had just left a few weeks before being hired.
I'm guessing that very few outside of the Commonwealth could answer the question about who succeeded Seth Greenberg at Virginia Tech.
