When the Pac 12 (then Pac 10) flirted wihTexas,


they were also interested in Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Colorado to make it the Pac 16. A&M didn't want anything to do with Texas' and the Pac 10's expansion plans. A&M joined the conference that they had their eyes set on for decades. Colorado finally joined the conference they admired for decades. The deal wasn't as attractive once A&M left for the SEC. Missouri got scared and fled o the SEC. The Pac 11 took Utah as #12 even though that wasn't their original plan. The Big 12 was a mess. Texas stepped in to save the day and kept that conference together. They added TCU and WVU. Oklahoma has been unhappy ever since. Texas still has the power. Schools like WVU, Iowa State, and Kansas State fear losing P-5 membership. The Big 12 is still a mess. IMHO, it will still be a mess if they expand to 12 or 14 unless they get a conference network like the other P-4 conferences. I don't think there's money out there to do that any time soon.
