Re: I'm looking at UConn delivering Connecticut more than NYC.

What do you mean by "deliver?" When the ACCN is added to cable packages, every cable subscriber will have our channel, theoretically, everyone coast to coast. Now the critical issue is: do those subscribers pay the diminutive out-of-footprint fee, or do they pay the fat, juicy in-footprint fee. I suppose Syracuse makes all of NY State in-footprint, including NYC. So maybe the incremental fees from Connecticut are not enough to earn them P5 membership.
If "deliver" means attract viewers, that is not as easy to determine. This is why there are so few candidates for expansion to P5 conferences. I am not sure any of the G5 schools have the earning power to pay their own way in a P5 conference. In this thread, we even found ourselves questioning the ability for Kansas to do that.
I suppose the ideal expansion candidate provides huge carriage fees in the immediate and near future, and has the ability to attract a large viewing audience after the carriage fees dry up. I suggested on another board that the Big 12 add San Diego State, Central Florida, Northern Illinois, and Temple. Then deploy the Big 12 Network and collect in-footprint fees from CA, FL, IL and PA. Big bucks... but not a great conference. I have also suggested on this board that the ACC add UCF and USF just to take ownership of their huge current and future alumni populations.
There are endless ways to evaluate expansion candidates, but I wonder if we haven't reached the point that the ACC should add blue blood programs, only. That would exclude UConn, Cincinnati, Navy, and just about everyone else. If TX, OK et.al. don't sign up, we'll be fine without 'em.
