What the general population of CT think of as "their" conference is very nearly irrelavent. Does the population of Georgia consider the ACC "their" conference? Not likely. But when the ACCN comes into being, every cable subscriber in GA will pay monthly homage to the ACC through their cable bill. With the ACCN we can change the way we think about markets.
Fan following is important and it becomes more important with each passing year, but for now, it has only a marginal effect on revenue. Advertisers who buy time from ESPN will generally buy national ad packages that will be shown coast to coast on all/any of ESPN's games. This was a large factor in the ESPN-B1G media deal. ESPN needs the B1G content or they will have huge gaping hole in their national ad footprint. (NYC & DC to Minnesota & Nebraska)
The ACC footprint is largely overlapped by the SEC & B1G. Virginia and North Carolina will be the driver of ad revenue, but the ACCN will be seen everywhere, so watch the conference try to schedule the most attractive games throughout the season, including the early OOC games.
Are New Yorkers interested in Syracuse FB? Doesn't matter, they're paying for it anyway.
