Not sure if you know that during a speech in New York on April 4, 1967,
a year to the day before he was assassinated, Dr. King described the United States as "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today", as well as the leading exponent of "the deadly Western arrogance that has poisoned the international atmosphere for so long." He went on to say "If America's soul becomes totally poisoned, part of the autopsy must read Vietnam. It can never be saved so long as it destroys the deepest hopes of men the world over.". He also said "We are called to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for victims of our nation and for those it calls enemy . . . ." Still think Dr. King was super awesome?
Funny how that seems to get forgotten every January when we gloss over the man's entire body of work to sell mattresses and cars.
By the way, a few months ago, many people on this website were mourning the passing of Muhammad Ali, conveniently forgetting he burned his draft card rather than serve in a war he found unjust.
