IMO, not even remotely comparable
Yes, VT left the Big East and the process was ugly. But - there was a specific process in place allowing a member to leave if they wanted to (pay a fee and leave). That's what we did - and we used the process as it was intended to be used.
In the case of Louisville and the Metro Conference, they colluded with a group of other conference members to kick us out of the conference and then immediately disband the conference specifically in order to avoid paying the exit fee that they had agreed to pay as conference members if they ever left.
Their behavior is exactly the opposite of what we did when we left the Big East - we honored the spirit of our agreement with the Big East teams that we left behind by paying our exit fee. In contrast, they conspired with other members to avoid their fee and avoid the spirit of their contract with us. Could they technically do what they did? Yes. Was it ethical? No.
Now - the lawsuit when we were leaving the Big East is a completely different thing (it is independent of our contract with the Big East - it was a lawsuit against the ACC). If WVU & others want to hold a grudge against us because we abandoned the lawsuit, I can understand that. But there is no moral equivalence between how Louisville & the Metro behaved under their Metro Conference Contract and how we behaved under our Big East Contract.
I will happily maintain my grudge against Louisville. (College football is much more fun with grudges)
Root Against Heirarchy:
1)UVa
2)UNC
3)Louisville
(All of this being said, I gotta admit Lamar Jackson is pretty awesome and FUN to watch)
