I'd have to respectfully disagree with the pre-game speeches and their impact. Even if their adrenaline wears off and you still have to go through a 4 quarter (at least) game, the speech can serve as a tone setter and rallying cry. If you get off schedule during the game or run up against some adversity, it gives everyone something to go back to and focus on and pull everyone back together.
