Re: No guru, but it depends on HOW the Big XII dissolves (if they dissolve) IMO
Imagine the vast "non-disclosure jungle" out there! Big 12 schools secretly plotting with conferences, playing one against the other. Schools proposing pacts with other schools. Schools forming voting blocs. All of them required by NDA's and by-laws to lie about every bit of it.
Could there be conferences bargaining for dibs on the Big 12 plunder? Are the media giants sending emissaries undercover to selected schools... selected conferences?
Someday the stories will come out and it will be a complicated tale, and sad.
Continued membership in power conferences for the Big 12 little seven, will require a brokered distribution of most of the schools into P4 homes. Not likely to happen. The two bully conferences can add elite programs only, or none at all. If the SEC can add UT and OK both, or either with a quality partner, they will do it. But if they can't land either of UT/Ok, why would they expand? Same for the B1G. For these two conferences, membership addition equals financial subtraction, unless the added schools are of the monster variety. Both conferences can afford to rest at fourteen indefinitely.
For all we know, there may already be handshake agreements among the premier schools and their future conferences. All the machinations may be window dressing.
My prediction for the Big 12 is that they amble toward the expiry of the GoR and media deal, at which time TX, OK, and maybe two others announce their move to their new conference(s). The others have little chance to join a P4. But there is a slim outside chance that the PAC 12 wants to add schools in the central time zone, just for favorable TV scheduling.
