Big East would provide more natural regional rivalries.

St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown are much closer than most of those AAC schools. The Big East has a lot of good men's basketball programs. Villanova, Georgetown, Xavier, Butler, and Creighton are good. Marquette isn't bad.

UConn probably isn't getting a Power 5 invite for at least another decade, maybe never. If they are losing $20 million per year from football, they either need to find people who can fix that problem or seriously consider leaving the AAC. The problem is, there is little interest in the AAC football teams coming to East Hartford. Maybe Temple and Navy might draw some interest, but folks in Connecticut have no interest in playing Tulsa, Tulane, Houston, SMU, Memphis,.. UConn joined the AAC only because they had no other options at the time and they felt the AAC could be a nice temporary home until they got their Power 5 invite. If UConn doesn't get a Power invite, the AAC may be a worse home for their other sports than the Big East or Atlantic 10.

I remember my undergraduate days at Tech when we played in the Metro Conference. Except for Louisville (because they were very good) and South Carolina (because they were somewhat regional), I had no interest or connection with the other schools like Memphis, Southern Miss, Cincinnati, Tulane, and even Florida State. I wanted to play schools like UNC, NC State, Duke, Clemson, Maryland,. UConn may just decide that its not worth losing $20 million a year on a football program that will never see a Power 5 invite.
