UConn didn't build the stadium, the state built it. Hence why it was

built near East Hartford instead of somewhere near Storrs. Since the state owns the stadium, UConn doesn't have a final say on who else can use it when UConn isn't playing home football games there. FWIW the Hartford Colonials (UFL) used to play there in 2009-2010. Also, the US Men's and Women's National teams have used the stadium on multiple occasions. If MLS was willing to have a second New England team, then I believe the state government would like to have a MLS club play their home games at the stadium. Not sure if the state would be open to a lower level club team playing their home games in the stadium. UConn did have a stadium on campus, but they tore it down so a new multi-million dollar basketball facility could be built in its place.
