It may not be that much of an issue when you consider that
every ACC school currently has a men's club ice hockey team. Not sure about the women's side. There is a little bit of irony with the men's club hockey because Duke, UNC, UVA, NC State, and Wake currently compete in the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League (ACCHL) which is DII club hockey VT club hockey currently competes in the ACHA which is also DII club hockey. Louisville, which plays VT in the Ohio Showcase and Liberty Showcase this year, competes in the TSCHL. FSU and Miami compete in ACHA (DIII). Syracuse currently competes in the ACHA (DI) and NECHL(DI). Pitt also competes in the ACHA (DI) and has a DII team too. GT also has a club team that may compete in the ACHA (DIII). It isn't clear on the club team's webpage, but GT does play Clemson, FSU, Miami, Notre Dame (club team), Ole Miss, UGA, USCe, UT, Vandy, ECU, and a few lesser known schools this year. I am assuming that Clemson also competes in the ACHA (DIII). Finally BC and Notre Dame currently participate in NCAA DI hockey. I don't think I missed anyone. Right now I am at work and don't have time to list the where all 15 teams currently play their home games. However, if you want to know then let me know I can do a post when I get home from work tonight.
Using the same arenas that the club teams are currently using may not be the most ideal situation. However, it could reduce the start up cost for the 13 schools that would be transitioning from club to varsity hockey and buy them some time as they decide on whether to continue using the facility or having a new one built. FWIW it does appear that a few of the club teams may already being using facilities on campus or relatively close to campus.
